Windows 7 Extended Support Ends Tomorrow
Windows 7, the once hugely popular Operating System from Microsoft, ceases to be supported by Microsoft as of tomorrow, 14th January 2020.
This means that, while Windows 7 will continue to work, it will no longer be supported by Microsoft. Fixes will no longer be applied, and crucially, this means no security patches.
This could also mean that software companies will now focus on developing and supporting their products on the latest Operating System, Windows 10, meaning that they may well drop support for their products running on Windows 7.
Microsoft have provided a handy FAQ, which you can read here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4057281/windows-7-support-will-end-on-january-14-2020 , but here some quick answers to the most common questions we’ve received.
- Can I still use Windows 7? Yes you can, but as of tomorrow, you will no longer receive new updates or security patches.
- Can I upgrade to Windows 10? Yes, and we highly recommend you do. There are a range of options, which we’re happy to discuss.
- I am a client, will C Data continue to support Windows 7? We will continue to support your desktops and laptops running Windows 7. However, be aware that issues that arise may be related to Microsoft no longer supporting the product. In that scenario, we may not be able to resolve the issue, but we will do all we can.
- I’m not a client, can C Data help me to upgrade to Windows 10? Yes, we would be delighted to advise and implement an upgrade path for you and your users.
